Around the World in Analogue: Montenegro

Situated in Southeastern Europe, Montenegro's vibrant landscape is characterized by tall mountains, majestic seascapes, and historic architecture via old stone houses and narrow streets. For film photographer Aram (@octopus_sushi), who recently visited the country, these qualities of Montenegro, on top of the warm and consistent presence of cats, made it an ideal place for film photographers.

In this edition of Around the World in Analogue, Aram shares marvelous photos taken in Montenegro and talks about the gratifying experience of getting to know the country's culture and landscapes.

I visited Montenegro last summer. It was a tennis camp, but we also managed to travel and enjoy the country. The stunning mountain backdrops against the Adriatic's blue waters created a truly unforgettable landscape.

Seeing the sea for the first time was a very special moment for me. The sheer vastness and the vibrant blue were breathtaking, and I felt a sense of awe I'd never experienced before.

I haven't traveled to many places, but the main feature of Montenegro is the cats. They are literally everywhere. Curled up on restaurant patios, sunbathing on ancient walls, and even patrolling the beaches, they were a constant, furry presence. I shot two rolls of film during my trip, and the biggest part of the photos are cats!

Montenegro is ideal for film photographers. You're gonna love the light! It's bright and sunny, especially down by the coast, so getting your exposures right is super easy.

Plus, you've got everything: those gorgeous old town streets for street photography and then those incredible mountain-meets-sea landscapes. It's like, perfect conditions for both.

Just a heads-up, though, it gets hot, especially in summer. So, do yourself a favor and keep some cold water on hand. You'll thank me later!
