Community Gallery: Proving Instant Film is for More Than Just Portraits

2

Even though we can now store photos in our digital devices, instant cameras are still well-loved in and out of the Lomography community. People who aren’t photography enthusiasts might simply take photos of their friends and family smiling for the camera on a special occasion — bonding over the eager excitement of holding a memory that they’re currently in.

However, the magic of instant photography extends beyond its ability to print our faces immediately. In this community gallery, we’re looking at random subjects on instant film to remind us that even the most incidental things around us are worth photographing.

Some people might find it easier to choose a single subject for their instant shots, afraid of losing the details of larger subjects once they're printed on a small sheet. These photos uploaded by our community members prove otherwise as they show us what else instant cameras are capable of capturing: @ensur gives us a stunning landscape that one could mistake for a painting, @bloomchen warps reality by shooting architecture with a Splitzer, and @hawkinsweeks shows the serenity of beach waves during the day.

A subject as random as a traffic cone even looks cool on instant! We see this in a shot by @speezberry who made its vibrant orange pop and complement with the peach-colored walls behind.

But if you're worrying a random object might be too uninteresting, cameras like the ones from Lomography's Instant Family have exciting features to experiment with. Why not try a double exposure like @serolfitnas? Perhaps, you could show motion through bulb mode the way @systemdevice and @flaviaslick did? You could even make the most out of the sharp close-up feature of our Lomo'Instant Wide Glass and take a photo of tiny fish just like @ashrichardson650 did.

As these community members have shown, there's always a way to spice up your instant shots!

Memories are found not just in pictures of familiar faces; they’re also scattered in the objects that we touch, the ground that we walk on, and the scenes that we see.

The next time you find yourself with an instant camera, try shooting whatever's in front of you — whether it’s a breathtaking view of the sunlight hitting your balcony or just your cluttered room. Look around and find a random memory worth holding in your hands!
