Photographer Con Captures Moments with Friends on LomoChrome 120 Film
1 2 Share TweetWe recently invited photographer Con to try out a variety of our LomoChrome film – 2021 LomoChrome Purple Pétillant 120 ISO 100–400, LomoChrome Color ’92 120 ISO 400 and 2021 LomoChrome Metropolis 120 ISO 100–400. In her photos, we can see the interaction between her subjects and surroundings, as well as how she expertly uses light to capture atmospheric moments. Con also shares her thoughts on the experience of using these three unique films!

Hello Con! Welcome to Lomography Magazine. Can you introduce yourself?
To be honest, I’m not very good at introducing myself! The cameras I use most often are the Pentax 645 and Pentax 67.
What inspired you to start photography?
When I was in high school, I saw a senior sharing film photos taken with a Lomo camera, and I found it fascinating. So, I bought a Holga 135BC and started shooting film! I also admired the works of Hideaki Hamada, which motivated me to begin experimenting with portrait photography.

What is your photography style? What do you hope to express through your work?
I’m still exploring different styles and learning more through experimentation! For instance, I enjoy portrait photography, street photography documenting old objects, and even shooting concerts with film. At the same time, I love taking close-up shots with film. I hope that when people view my work, they can sense the atmosphere I captured in that specific moment, the interplay of light and environment, and even the subtle details that caught my eye. Overall, I aim to share every moment with film, creating a sense of "being there" for the viewer.
Did this shoot have a specific theme? What inspires your photography?
The theme this time was documenting my friends—interesting people I’ve known since I started shooting film. My inspiration comes from observing the surroundings, landscapes, and people during my daily walks.
Do you have a favorite photo from this shoot?
It’s hard to choose! If I had to pick one, it would be the photo of @khalia_ pushing a cart. I often guide my subjects to interact with their surroundings during shoots—it’s not just a backdrop!

Another favorite would be this photo taken with LomoChrome Metropolis 120.

What song would you pair with this collection of photos? Why?
1) I Mean Us - 9: Their second album "Into Innerverse" explores deeper emotions and ideas, akin to inner exploration. I share similar thoughts, as I hope to convey deeper emotions through my photos.
2) Hyukoh & Sunset Rollercoaster - Aaaannnnteeeeennnaaaaaa (a slowed-down version of "Antenna"): It feels like gravity slowing everything down. I chose this song because I hope my photos carry a similar sense of tension, like a slow-motion effect.
What do you think is the charm of shooting with 120 medium format film?
The charm of medium format film is something that cannot be matched by 35 mm. Once you try shooting portraits with a 120 medium format camera, you’ll never go back to 135 film. (Just try it, and you’ll understand what I mean!)
Can you share your experiences using the different types of film?
LomoChrome Color ’92 120 ISO 400: Great for portraits and landscapes. The results won’t disappoint.
2021 LomoChrome Metropolis 120 ISO 100–400: Suitable for portraits and street photography. For example, the photo of the "clock shop" in Choi Hung Estate preserves the light and atmosphere of small shops in low-light conditions.
2021 LomoChrome Purple Pétillant 120 ISO 100–400: I’ve tried the original version of LomoChrome Purple years ago, and the new formula is much more stable. When shooting landscapes, it feels like entering another world.
What are your future plans for photography?
In the future, I hope to shoot more portraits and take on more photography opportunities. I also want to challenge myself with different styles and create more works!
