Synesthesia #22 Imagined Album Covers of Lomography

For this 22nd edition of Synesthesia, we showcase some different unique, and creative photos from the wider Lomography community. Using cameras like the Lomography Spinner 360, challenging film stocks like positive slide film, and new creative techniques like stitching together different half-frame photos, these selections are a great way to start the new year in a more creative headspace. Mixing up these selections with some groovy Asian City Pop, emotional sundown music and uplifting jazz let's take a look at how everything comes together for this round of Synesthesia.

Shooting slide film is challenging as it is less forgiving than black and white or color negative film. Despite this @ienyamasaki showcases his skill with this relaxing and tranquil photo of the woods where you can almost hear the rushing water. With that, I chose 3 songs that would be perfect to listen to as you wander through this secluded area where you can take time to relax and touch some grass

Ryuichi Sakamoto - energy flow
Brian Eno - Another Green World
((( O ))) - WILD CHILD

One thing I love about @sungsamorn's photo is that he is able to put together different half-frame photos and turn it into one giant story. Whether using a half-frame, full-frame or any other camera I'm sure you can achieve and put together something similar as long as you have the creative mind for it. With the summer and sunny feeling I got from this photo I paired it wup with some uplifting and warm jazz that is perfect for your next stroll in the sun.

Masaaki Ohmura - A Touch Of Temptation
Oregon - Twice Around The Sun
Marcos Resende - My Heart

Using the Spinner 360 for this photo really reminded me of the booklets you find in CDs and vinyl showcasing different behind-the-scenes photos and outtakes of a music cover shoot. Lomographer @melky showcases how fun it is to use this camera and with him and his friends paired up in the picture you can easily take it as a cool album cover of a rock and roll band. With that I chose different bands from different generations that can certainly pair up well with this 360 snap.

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Neue Tanz
The Primitives - Lazy
Linda McCartney - The Light Comes From Within

Instantly reminding me of the 80s era of Asian Pop stars, Taiwanese Lomographer @hanyulai's photo reminds me of an editorial or outtakes for album covers for pop music stars. The use of black and white and the slight blur also brings out an emotional depth to the photo. With that I chose 3 heavy hitting and groovy City Pop songs from different parts of Asia to get us into that 80s mood.

Mu Jie Xie / 慕潔溪 – 害羞的男孩
Ishida-Express I - China Romance
Anita Mui - Plastic Love (cover)

For the last photo, @thirstkid takes us within to the end of golden hour when the sun is about to go down right below the horizon and you see a warm mix of the afternoon and night sky becoming one. With that, I chose 3 songs perfect for watching the sunset with Donna Summer's State Of Independence being a stand-out track as the addictive chorus can keep looping in your head as you lay by the lake and watch the sky become darker.

Donna Summer - State of Independence
Louie Vega & The Martinez Brothers feat. Marc E. Bassy - Let It Go (Extended Mix)
Alex Kassian - E2-E4 (A reference to E2-E4 by Manuel Gottsching)
