Background

In simple terms, redscaling is the method of exposing the opposite or "wrong" side of photographic film, leading light to reach the red-sensitive layer of the film first. Multi-layer film emulsions have three layers (red, green, and blue), of which red happens to be the most dominant, causing the redscale effect and giving photos intense red, orange and yellow hues.

Redscale remains one of the most fascinating experimental processes that can be done on film, with its stunning, intense results enchanting many to try it out. The Lomography Redscale was born out of the desire to make redscale photography more convenient to film shooters.

Lomography Redscale Color Guide

One of the elements that makes Lomography Redscale fun to shoot is the varying ISOs that affect the outcome of an image. As can be seen in the film stock's Film Guide, shooting the Lomography Redscale in varying ISO yields different results, with the higher ISO resulting in brighter reds and a more prominent redscale effect.

These examples from our community members showcase the fierce beauty of this film stock, giving each photo its own character.
