Welcome to Lomography Magazine! Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, I'm Namae, a photographer based in Kyoto. I shoot everyday scenes and portraits on film and sometimes print my photos in a darkroom.
How did you come across Lomography?
I was a high school student at that time. For a high school student like myself, buying a roll of film wasn't an everyday purchase as films weren't cheap. One day I found a three roll pack for a more affordable price and started shooting Lomography films since then. Now Lomo films became my must-have film every time I go on a trip.
How was your experience using the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass ?
When I touched the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass for the first time it felt like a medium format camera. I know some people might say cameras need to be light, but I personally prefer cameras with weight. The new Lomo'Instant Wide Glass feels like a solid camera; every click of the shutter gives you a spark.
What do you think of the quality of the newly equipped glass lens?
The photos turned out really wonderful, especially under the sunlight. I felt a stronger sense of depth, which made me feel as if I was shooting a medium format lens on Instax film. Once you use this camera, it'll make you realize how much Instax films can capture with a glass lens!
What would you say are "Lomographic" ways of shooting on instant film?
You could of course take it to parties for casual snapshots, but you could also use this camera to shoot memorable scenes. Set up a tripod, press the shutter, and hand out instax photos to your friends – this is how you really capture fun memories INSTANTLY!
What are the scenes you would like to shoot with the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass?
I want to put it on a tripod and shoot family photos. The high image quality of this lens is definitely a good choice of group photos.
What is the beauty of instant film that regular film doesn't have?
I know today many people choose to shoot film, but only a handful print their photos on paper. I choose to shoot film, which makes me want to give physical prints to people I photograph. Instant cameras never lose the warmth and atmosphere of the scenes as they instantly capture all the essence on the film. That's the beauty of instant film.
What makes a good photograph?
Good portrait photographs make me think "now I'm a bit closer to them." Whether I'm photographing someone I know or someone I meet for the first time, there's always a moment where I can get a glimpse of their true nature, and if I can catch that moment, I know I took a good picture – a picture I want to show off. My photos often reflect distance (physically and mentally) between people I photograph and me, and that's what I care about.
