First Impressions of the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass by Manuela Fraioli

Manuela Fraioli is an Italian photographer based in the UK who specializes in portraits. She has a unique approach to photography and manages to capture razor-sharp editorials for big fashion brands whilst exploring her playful side with our LomoChrome films and her manipulated instant photos.

We thought Manuela would be the perfect candidate to test out our new Lomo'Instant Wide Glass camera. She took to the streets of London with model Athena Leung to utilize her urban surroundings and shares her first impressions of the new camera in this interview.

Hi, Manuela! What were your first impressions of the new Lomo'Instant Wide Glass camera?

I have to admit it was my first time using a Lomo'Instant Wide Glass so I was very curious to test the possibility of the camera. After a slow start getting used to the zone focusing I had an amazing time and got some really great shots.

What did you decide to shoot with this camera and why?

For this photo shoot I worked with professional dancer and choreographer Athena Leung. Her practice is a mixture of multiple cultures and roots. Some major influences include Chinese Dance, Contemporary Dance, Breaking and Martial arts. We worked with the idea of how urban elements influence body movement and shape it accordingly.

I think the Lomo'Instant Wide Glass gave us the possibility to get some exciting shots which showed the dynamic of the city but also invited us to dream, thanks to its unique texture and style.

What is the appeal of instant photography compared to other analogue formats? Any tips for other people wanting to try out the Lomo’Instant Wide Glass?

What I love most about instant photography is the unpredictable results you can get. You are free to experiment. Like in life you never know what to expect. If it’s your first time with zone focusing like it was for me, take your time to get used to it and have fun during the process. Try shooting from different angles and with different light conditions.
