A Day With PERARNAU IV, DRAMA and the Lomo'Instant Automat Glass at Prestoso Fest
2 Share TweetTo celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Lomo’Instant family we’ve sent some of our instant cameras off on their own adventures. In this article series, a selection of LomoAmigos take us into their unique worlds and show us a day in their lives through the magic of instant photography. Today we’re spending a day with the Spanish artists Zahara and Martí, aka Drama and Perarnau IV.
With their Lomo'Instant Automat Glass Kilimanjaro, they immerse us in the enchantment of Perarnau IV's techno set at Prestoso Fest in Asturias, wrapped in the lights of Drama's visual art and share with us some of the most special moments of their trip by capturing them on instant film. See the results and read their story below.
The following words are written by the artists
Trips have to transform the soul, open new bifurcations, fill it with new senses. You have to return home molded, with new edges and with some old edges polished, worked. Otherwise, they would call it displacement.
The destination matters little, what is transforming is the purpose. Sometimes one journey needs another to complete the mission. An epilogue is needed. For us, that is exactly what this year's Prestoso Fest was. The conclusion where all the silver particles that impregnated the photosensitive paper that was our summer of 2024 crystallized and finished settling.
Our journey to Prestoso Fest began a week before. With a photograph, a snapshot taken with the mind, in the middle of a dance floor. A photograph shot at an electronic music festival, in Amsterdam, in an old armament factory (I like the culture of European harnessing and how they use places where once the grips and cannons of evil were made, to build human moments for good, like a rave). During a session in which Paquita Gordon with her vinyls gave us a high voltage meditation, a pilgrimage through dance to the beyond, at that precise moment we took a mental snapshot that would embrace us for seven days and take us on a flight directly to the stage of the Prestoso.
That photo we took is an ancestral sensation, a form of lasting happiness that sticks to your bones when you dance, that remains forever engraved on your hips. In my retinas persists the blue color of the lights behind Paquita Gordon's gray hair, the well of mystery that lives at the bottom of every club that deserves to be called Club, with a capital letter. Persists in our inner retina the glorious soundsystem and above all persists the grave rumbling in our heart.
With that photo in our backpacks, a week after that magical moment, we got in the car heading to Cangas del Narcea. The trunk full of machines, Noe, our sound technician, and sister on the road for years in the back seat and DRAMA loading the Lomo'Instant with film to try to take the real picture this time, in analogue and not only in our minds.
We drove to Asturias with the sole purpose of trying to make a session of depth and heart to close the Friday day of the festival, from 3 to 5 in the morning. Trying to make the magic that Paquita left in our memory reach through our session also to the attendees of Prestoso.
I think it was the first time that techno sounded in the valley. Ten years of festival, of precious healing, hard work, and a festival that oozes love for music on all sides, but had not yet brought the sounds of the depths to their pastures. We were lucky to be the first to do so, to be trusted to do so, and lucky that the Prestoso audience is so open and so music-loving as to embrace all the proposals with absolute enthusiasm and that they stayed to dance until closing time and still wanted us to play "otres tres", three more songs at five in the morning. "Prestosa" energy and passion like no other. If only all festivals were like Prestoso.
Thank you to Zahara and Martí for sharing these special moments with us! Make sure to follow them on social media: @perarnauiv, @todoesdrama, @prestosofest.
