Hi María! Welcome to Lomography Magazine! Could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?

Hi!, I'm María Gabino (35Gatos on instagram) I'm 32 years old and I'm currently studying to become a nail technician. After many years in the retail sector, I've decided to change for something that makes me bring out the creativity that I have inside me.

How did you get started in analogue photography?

I consider analogue photography a hobby and I started it a few years ago, in 2019, all because I got an analogue camera as a birthday present. Since then I have never stopped.

You post many pictures of your loved ones and pets in your social media. What scenes draw your attention the most when you photograph?

Yes, I love taking pictures of my cats and my loved ones, after all they are memories that you keep forever. However there are a couple of things that catch my attention when taking pictures, architecture and palm trees, well, plants in general.

What role does analogue photography have for you in terms of expressing yourself? Do you have a cherished memory linked to photography that you would like to share with our community?

I consider it a way of escape. Often when I'm having a bad day I like to go out alone to take photos and it's my form of boosting my spirits and improving my mood. A memory I have associated with photography is that my father has always loved photos. At home we have hundreds of photos of family events and so on, and one of the cameras I sometimes use was given to my sister as a present for her first communion.

You shot this summer series with the Fisheye No.2 and LomoChrome Metropolis film. Do you have a favorite photo among them?

My favourite photos are the ones of the Red Wall. As it is impossible to enter because the neighbours get very angry and don't want visitors, I had to settle for taking them from the outside. It was a dream come true, to see Bofill's Red Wall with my own eyes and to be able to photograph it with such a fun camera and film.

What was your first impression of the results? And do you have any tips or tricks when using this camera and film?

My first impression was: Wow what a different film and how fun is the Fisheye camera. My advice is to let go, photograph what your heart desires and enjoy the experience that the camera will provide you. From that point to the results, it is all a surprise because this is a completely different film.

What other cameras and film do you like to experiment with?

I like to experiment with other cameras that I am starting to work with now, such as the NikonF65, that allows you to make double exposures and with the Yashica FX3, which is the first manual camera I've ever used, as I've always shot with point-and-shoots.

Do you have any events coming up that you are excited to photograph?

Well, my birthday is soon and I'm really looking forward to getting together with my family and friends and take some photos to remember it forever.
