An Analogue Self-Portrait Challenge with Mis Diarios Creativos
1 4When we heard about the creative photography projects organized by Tam Castrillejo, artist and photographer behind Mis Diarios Creativos (My Creative Diaries), we instantly thought it would be amazing to join her for a new wonderful Analogue Challenge!
We sent out experimental cameras and films to some selected participants, to see what they would create with them and how they would explore the theme chosen for the challenge: the self-portrait. For a month, the participants had to shoot a self-portrait on film every day, following Tam's guidelines and delve into the different meanings of the theme.
Today we're thrilled to share with you the results that emerged from this intimate and personal, but at the same time collective, experience.
I've been a fan of Lomography for years, and little by little I've been getting as many cameras as I can. But I didn't know about the LomoApparat yet, and what a discovery it was! I was very curious about the kaleidoscopic lens, and it didn't disappoint. Portraits with it are a lot of fun! Lightweight, perfect to carry in your bag and with lots of colored flashes to experiment with. It was a lot of fun, and although the idea of taking self-portraits did not seduce me, I let myself be carried away by the game and Tam's proposals, and I don't regret it! - Miriam Villoslada
The truth is that I felt very lucky to be able to participate in this challenge. As a child I "stole" my father's camera to be able to take pictures of "my nonsense" and although sometimes as an adult I have shot on film, this project, I don't know why, brought me back to that childhood where taking pictures without feeling guilty about taking a shot made me happy. I was happy to observe with the eyes of a child again, to try to capture a fleeting image, the thrill of seeing what had come out when developing. It was a lovely experience and a lot of fun for me. I liked the result and thanks to this project, I have started a personal one. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this experience. - Esmeralda López
I have been shooting analogue photography since 2012. My first camera was a Diana Mini. I liked the process of Mis Diarios Creativos a lot, because every day I had to come up with a photograph and the theme of oneself and its internal and external exploration has enchanted me. When I got the camera that you gave me, I hesitated a lot with the photos because it was to make panoramas so I only had enough for 18 photos. In my mind I didn't have the vision to do something intimate like a panoramic self-portrait. So, let's see what comes out! This is experimentation. Although at the same time I dusted off my Diana Mini to be able to do the whole process and have two cameras back for the project. All in all I liked it a lot. - Marta Domingo
My experience with the La Sardina camera and the LomoChrome Metropolis film was quite rewarding, always guided by the premises of Mis Diarios Creativos. I immersed myself in a process of experimentation that allowed me to capture unique moments and explore my creativity in a different way. The combination of the camera with the LomoChrome Metropolis film offered me surprising results in terms of colors and contrasts, giving me images with a retro and vibrant style that I had not achieved before. However, not being completely familiar with how the camera works, some photos didn't come out as I expected, which was a minor setback in this photographic experience. Still, each shot was a lesson that brought me closer to analogue photography and the magic of unpredictability. - Leticia González Machuca
