First Impressions of the Lomomatic 110 by Muhammad Irhamesar Ramadhan

Muhammad Irhamesar Ramadhan is an Indonesian civil servant and film photography enthusiast. Recently, he has developed an interest in street photography and notes Fan Ho as a big influence and inspiration.

Irhamesar has been an active member of the Lomography community for several years, regularly posting his wonderful photos on his LomoHome. So we decided to send him our Lomomatic 110 and a few rolls of 110 Lomography film to see what he would come up with.

Hello and welcome to Lomography's online magazine! Could you introduce yourself and tell us about your photographic journey?

Hello, my name is Irhamesar. I started my analogue photography in 2010 when my high school friend introduced me to a Lomography camera. I felt amazed by the color of the photographs and since then I've been attached to analogue photography.

We sent you the new Lomomatic 110 to try out. What were your first impressions and in what ways does using this camera differ from your usual photographic method?

The first time I saw the Lomomatic 110, I was surprised at how small it was. This camera is different from my recent cameras because it's really easy to take it everywhere and on every occasion.

What is your favorite feature or characteristic of the camera?

Honestly, I am still amazed with the way we move from frame to frame. It is really unusual and unique! For me, the bulb and normal mode in the Lomomatic 110 are the best features because they help me shoot in every light condition.

Were you previously familiar with 110 format?

This was the first time I had used 110 format. With that size, I think it's really easy to take everywhere so we won't lose any moments that we want to shoot. Sure! I also like that with 110 film we can see all of the film frame without using a specific scanner. It really felt very classic!

You used a variety of our 110 film. How was your experience with each of them?

I like the color of the Color Tiger 110. It is so natural and soft, so it's suitable for every moment. I think LomoChrome Metropolis 110 is suitable for shooting people since its color feels cinematic.

I like the way the LomoChrome Purple 110 changes green into purple. It is so unpredictable!

This LomoChrome Color ‘92 is a really unique film. Sometimes the color can be like Metropolis, but it's softer.

Did you face any challenges while using these films?

I think the most challenging thing was the weather conditions. When we shoot in cloudy weather, the color of these films won't optimally appear. They tend to be softer, so it is better to shoot it in sunny weather so the colors will be optimal.

Have you found that shooting with a 110 camera changed any of your photographic perspectives or habits?

Yes, since the size of the camera is very small, I can bring it everywhere. I usually put it in my jacket pocket!

Any tips and tricks for shooting with the Lomomatic 110?

Just take it everywhere and every time you go out. And it is better in sunny weather!

What are your hopes for the future of the 110 format?

Since this film is so interesting, I hope it will be cheaper in the future so we can afford it without any hesitation.
