Lomopedia: Agfa Scala 200X
2 10 Share TweetIn this edition of Lomopedia, we're getting to know more about the Agfa Scala 200X, a special film stock known for being the only black and white slide film in the market.
We're also sharing a few images by our community members taken using the well-loved film stock. Let's get into it!
The Agfa Scala 200X was many photographers' favorite, whether professional or beginners, because of its smoothness and fine grain. The black and white reversal film is suitable for different uses such as landscape, architecture, portrait photography and more, and was available in 35 mm, 120 and 10.2 x 12.7 cm sheet film formats.
The Agfa Scala 200X can be pulled to 100 and and pushed up to 1600, making it a versatile film stock for different kinds of environments. While stock has dwindled over the years, rolls of this film can still be found, although it can be hard getting the film developed as a slide film since the Agfa Scala 200X uses its own SCALA process. The film stock can also be developed as a negative.
The Agfa Scala 200X was discontinued after the company Agfa withdrew from the consumer market in 2004 and consequently stopped manufacturing photographic materials. The ADOX Scala was said to be a near alternative that replaced the Agfa Scala.
As can be seen in these images shared by our community members, the film stock's superior sharpness and versatility were two of the main things that made this a preferred film stock for so many.
Information for this article was sourced from the film stock's technical data uploaded at 125px.com.
