Lomography Partners: Sunday Antique Camera of Tamsui, New Taipei
1 9Come one, come all. Lomography has partners all over the world to help serve your analogue needs. If you're in Taiwan then it's your lucky day! Sunday Antique Camera is our partner located in the tranquil town of Tamsui in New Taipei City. The owners, Eric and Ni have established and manage the store together, with Eric introducing the cameras, while Ni takes care of photography and shop management. Let's take a closer look at their story!

Hello Eric! Can you introduce yourself to the Lomography community? Please tell us about yourself and what you do.
I actually prefer admiring the design of cameras themselves and dismantling them to understand the internal structure rather than photography. My job is to help customers find the camera that best suits them.
What’s the story behind your store? How did it all start?
I've always loved old things and enjoyed photography. Since my student days, I've been into film cameras. After entering the workforce, I got so busy that I didn't have time for film photography anymore. I thought about selling my gear but unexpectedly found that the film camera market was even hotter than when I was a student. So, I started buying and selling film cameras and equipment.
Do you have a favorite Lomography product and why?
The Lomo'Instant Automat Glass Magellan. The maximum aperture is F4.5, and it has a wide-angle lens, making it extremely convenient for instant photography. It's suitable for almost all subjects in daily life.
Who inspires you?
The initial inspiration for opening the shop came from the industry's veteran sellers of film cameras.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part is the sense of achievement from repairing cameras and the surprise from customers after receiving well-scanned film files.
What’s the most difficult part of it?
Checking the cameras is quite demanding as it requires a lot of energy. Sometimes customers bring in a lot of cameras for testing at once and it almost makes me faint!
Do you have any future plans for the store or projects you’re working on that you can tell us about?
We started with selling second-hand cameras, then expanded to include accessories like film, camera bags, and more. We later expanded into repair and inspection services, followed by buying and selling used cameras and offering brand new Lomography film cameras. Most recently, we've introduced film developing services and the latest in photo printing, ensuring every precious moment is captured forever on 4x6 prints!
What is special about living/working in Tamsui District of New Taipei City? Do you have any favorite spots to take photos in the area?
Tamsui's pace is slower and more relaxed, making it a popular tourist destination. Walking along its streets, you'll encounter tourists from around the world. With its long history, Tamsui offers a wealth of historical landmarks, natural scenery, and an abundance of local snacks, which are a constant draw for visitors. A stroll along the riverside takes you past attractions such as the ancient banyan tree-lined riverbank, churches, and the customs wharf. In the evening, you can capture the beautiful sunset glow. Further along, you'll find landmarks like Fort San Domingo, Tamkang University, and the Little White House, each offering unique architectural charm and excellent photo opportunities!
