Around the World in Analogue: Norway (Bergen & Askøy)

Majestic landscapes and eye-catching architecture characterize the municipalities of Bergen and Askøy. In this edition of Around the World in Analogue, photographer Christoph George tells us about a work-related trip he recently took to Norway, where he visited the city of Bergen and the fjords of Askøy. Let's hear his stories!

The visit was from 28th April to 18th May 2024. I visited the city of Bergen and the island of Askøy just as a fjord.

It was a job-related trip for three weeks with quite a number of students, and of course my favorite two cameras! We started from Germany by bus and took the ferry from Hirtshals in northern Denmark directly to Bergen in Norway.

Since the nature in Norway is very impressive itself you actually just need to take your camera and catch some time off to get beautiful pictures quite easy. Nonetheless the Ulriken mountain at Bergen is for example a must-see with an extraordinary view over the whole area.

The tall mountains in combination with the wide sea very often just in front of it is for sure an eye catcher. The architecture is especially worth seeing in the countryside, when quite often old romantic wooden houses appear out of nowhere. I’m wondering if Ansel Adams ever went to Norway. So bring two or three extra films around!

Don’t be too restricted when you ask yourself if you should carry one or two lenses more than normal. Just do so and if you don’t have enough space in your suitcase leave some clothes at home you don’t really need!

If you are going to visit Bergen there is a nice small shop for analogue cameras right in the city center that you should take a look at.
