Sun-Kissed in Hawai'i: Maddie Alohilani's First Impressions of our Newest LomoChrome Film

2

When we came across Maddie Alohilani's work online, we knew we had to ask her to try our new LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed film. In the early stages of its testing, we sent a roll out to O'ahu for Maddie to capture those golden Hawai'ian sun rays in her signature soft, beachy style.

Modeled by her friend Lindsay Sunada, the pair went off into the sunset for a laid-back photoshoot by the sea. The results? More radiant than we ever could have expected!

Lay back and feel the sun shine through your screen as you read Maddie's first impressions of the film!

Hi Maddie, welcome to Lomography Magazine! Please tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.

I’m a film photographer, and I’ve been shooting for three years now. I would classify myself as an underwater and travel photographer. I live on O'ahu, where my mom and her family is from, but I grew up around the world in a few different countries. I love going on adventures and bringing my camera along to capture the views.

Tell us about the concept for this shoot. What and where did you decide to photograph?

I wanted to capture the blissful feeling of summertime and the magic of golden hour. I took photos at my favorite beach spots here on O'ahu.

What were your first impressions when you saw the results?

I was really happy with them! The warm tones really gave the photos that golden hour feeling I was looking for. I got some unexpected light leaks, but I think they make the shots more interesting. I hadn’t shot a film quite like this before so it was really fun to try something new.

How would you describe the look of the new LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed ?

I would describe it as warm and soft with medium contrast. I really liked it for portraits in natural light.

What do you think is the ideal situation for shooting the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

I think shooting in the light right before sunset is the ideal situation for this film. The golden hues pair really well with it.

Do you have a favorite shot taken with this film? Tell us about it.

I love the silhouette shot of the model walking with the sun behind her and the light hitting the water. It really captures that vintage feel of film.

What song would you choose to accompany a photo shoot with the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

I would say something like Hesitate by Golden Vessel!

This film is crafted to capture the magic glow of golden-hour. How would you spend a perfect summer evening?

My perfect summer evening would be spent surfing for a couple hours followed by a hammock and picnic at my favorite hidden beach. I’m grateful that I get to do that pretty often living here in Hawai'i!

Do you have any recent or upcoming projects you'd like to share with our community?

No specific projects currently. I’m excited to start planning my next dive trips and underwater photo destinations!

Anything else you'd like to share?

I’m so honored to have been chosen to test out the new LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed film. Excited to shoot more of it this summer!
