Yoshua T.H Hits the Studio with the LomoApparat
2Yoshua is a fashion and beauty photographer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. We recently sent him our LomoApparat and he tried it out in a studio photography session in Jakarta. Get to know him and his work in this interview and let's take a look at his photos shot with our very own LomoApparat!

Hi, Yoshua! It’s great to have you here at Lomography! Please tell us about yourself.
Hi! Well, I’m a photographer based in Jakarta, Indonesia. My photography work mainly focuses on fashion and beauty, but I also do wedding photography. My interest in photography is mainly because I can pour my feelings into a concept.
How do you describe your photography? Do you have any film photographers that you look up to?
I describe my photography as a way to communicate my feelings and stories, conceptualising and creating a story through every frame. I do have some film photographers I have in mind – Faizal Wescott, Willem Verbeeck, and Jason Kummerfeldt (grainydays).
How did you like shooting with the LomoApparat?
I like how nostalgic the pictures turned out. And how playful I can be with the camera. Even though I didn't play with all its features I could see many possibilities with it.
Can you tell us about what you decided to shoot with the LomoApparat?
So lately I have been struggling with a situation in my own life and I did research about how people manage to deal with it. I found out about stages of grief, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and lastly acceptance. With help from a great team: Thalita as the stylist, Atika as the Makeup Artist, Serdiana as the hairstylist, and also Jess as the model, the concept turned out as I imagined.
Do you have a favorite photo taken with this camera?
My favorite picture actually is this one, from the lighting and the styling, it's so great. Jess’ expression is also perfect.
What do you think is the perfect situation for shooting with this camera?
At first I thought this camera would suit best to shooting outdoors, but shooting indoors with studio lighting was also good. So I think this camera works well in every situation.

What is one thing you have been dying to explore further (anything from a place to a particular subject)? What is your dream project?
Since this was my first time shooting with film, i think i’m gonna try to explore shooting more with film!
Tell us about some of the current projects you are working on. Do you have any projects in particular you are looking forward to?
In the next few days I’m going to shoot a friend of mine who lives in Bali. Since i’m not that kind of outdoor photographer I think it’s time for me to break from the comfort zone and explore it! A bit scary, but fun!
Any messages to Indonesian Lomographers out there?
Take photography as a fun thing to do and keep exploring. Make it fun!
Thanks to Yoshua for sharing his photos, knowledge and experience with all of us! Keep up with his latest work at his Instagram.
