First Impressions of the LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed 35 mm Film by Hong Kong Film Lover Abbie
3 13Recently, we invited Hong Kong film lover Abbie to test-shoot our latest LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed Color Negative Film, which gives a nostalgic atmosphere with warm tones. She took advantage of the sunny weather to visit Cheung Chau, an outlying island of Hong Kong. She also invited a friend to model for her and took a series of stunning portraits in an antique Chinese garden. Let’s take a look at what she captured!
Hello Abbie, welcome back to Lomography Magazine! What have you been working on recently?
Hello! Long time no see. Thank you for inviting me again. I’m really happy! I mentioned in my last interview that I wanted to use film photos shot in UK to make a photo journal. It is finally ready! So recently I have been busy looking for my local and overseas friends to send my photography journals to them!
Tell us about the concept for this shoot. Where did you decide to photograph?
When I got the chance to test out this new film, I wanted to shoot everything! On a rare sunny day in March, I went to Cheung Chau. I took along my favorite Pentax Spotmatic F, intending to find photographic inspiration. Thank God for the beautiful weather! It was so good that my camera was able to capture beautiful pictures all the time. It was a fruitful day!
After going to Cheung Chau, I met a very classy friend whom I had met when I was studying. Wearing the Cheongsam we found while cleaning up her house, we took portrait photos in an antique Chinese garden. Although it was not a sunny day, the light was just right, which was perfect for taking portraits, so I really like these photos!
How would you describe the look of the new LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed ?
I really like the photos I took with LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed. It creates a great effect! I think the attraction of this film is that it has a good chemical reaction with sunlight. Not only having a retro feel, the photos include a warm effect when shooting under the sun. The colors are really nice!
Overall, LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed gives a warm atmosphere, making the photo I shot even warmer.
We know you have also tried our original LomoChrome Color ‘92 film! How does this compare?
I think LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed is the younger brother of LomoChrome Color '92. Although the "genes" are very similar, the "personality" is different.
Both films have a retro and cinematic style. But in comparison, the tones of the two rolls of film are different. LomoChrome Color '92 is cool-toned, with a bit of a blue filter. LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed is warm-toned, especially red and orange. It is more vivid. If I had to describe it, LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed is like the "cheerful version" of LomoChrome Color '92. It retains the grainy, retro vibe of LomoChrome Color ‘92, but added with warmth.
What do you think is the ideal situation for shooting the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?
Since this film is called "Sun-kissed", it is certainly most suitable for shooting under the sun! I think it's a good film for outdoor use because it works well in natural light. In addition to the outstanding colors, the resulting photos also have a soft feel. When being used under normal sunlight, I think the warm-toned LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed is also very suitable for shooting sunrise and sunset scenes. Its own effect can capture that orange-toned picture beautifully. Summer is coming, and so are the clear and sunny days. This is the perfect time to use it!
Do you have a favorite shot taken with this film?
Please allow me to select two photos because it is really difficult to choose!
Although I took a lot of favorite photos when I went to Cheung Chau, my absolute favorite was the photo of the family standing on the beach. I didn't take a picture of their expressions, but when I saw the child standing in the middle and his father standing next to him watching the water and sand flowing together, and the mother looking at them, I felt the connection between them. In this sunshine and beach, it seems so sincere. I think they had a great time too.

As for another photo that I really like, it’s the one where my friend is looking at the camera with a flower in her mouth. I think my friend’s facial expression makes me like this photo even more! She gently bit the flower and then looked leisurely at the camera. With her hair being blown by the wind but not untidy and her dark blue cheongsam, this close-up of her had a unique look that made me love this photo so much!

In your opinion, what makes a great photo?
To be honest, I am a person who easily loses confidence in myself and is always dissatisfied with the photos I take. Sometimes I am too harsh on myself. But now I feel that photographing can actually be a very personal matter. Taking pictures can be just to please yourself, nothing more. If I can always think like this, a photo can easily become a photo that I am satisfied with. The reason can be precious memories, in a good composition or simply beautiful. As long as looking at it can make you feel better, then it is a photo that I will be satisfied with!
This film is crafted to capture the magic glow of golden-hour. How would you spend a perfect summer evening?
I am a person who likes to be alone. For me, a perfect summer night does not require company or noise. It should be enjoyed alone. If there is an evening breeze on a summer night, I will put on my headphones, play my favorite album, walk leisurely to the seaside promenade next to my home. And then find a place where no one is around to sit down, watching the reflection of the light in the water. I would stay there for several hours without realizing it, and then go home with satisfaction. While this may sound ordinary, summer evenings like this are really perfect for me!
What advice would you give to others shooting with the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?
If this is your first time using LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed, please remember that sunlight is this film's best friend! Try to use it where there is sunlight, as this will give the best photos. LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed is a very versatile film, so in addition to using it to take landscape photos and street photography, you can also try using it to take portrait photos. The effect will be very beautiful! Finally, don't limit yourself, use LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed to capture whatever you want to record!
