Clare Marie Bailey is a photographer and film maker based in Anglesey, Wales. She shoots exclusively using film and has crafted out her own style and aesthetic, choosing to focus on self portraits and blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. We asked her to test out the new LomoChrome Color '92 Sun-kissed Edition and she talks to us here about the results.

Hi Clare, how have you been since your last interview with us?

I’ve been showing some short films and photos in exhibitions and doing a lot of planning– gathering ideas for new work which I’m excited about creating in summer.

Tell us about the concept for this shoot. What and where did you decide to photograph?

I shot it on the island where I live, in some of the out-of-the way places I go to. I’d been reading about Sophie Coppola’s inspirations and her film, ‘The Virgin Suicides’ was in my head at the time, although it’s probably not overtly apparent.

What were your first impressions when you saw the results?

I loved the fact it’s versatile depending on the aperture you shoot at. I really liked the subtle and slightly softer tones I got in some of my images and the enhanced contrast for a certain special mood.

My favorites were from the images where I’d stopped down and got the softer last rays of the day feel which tapped into a type of nostalgia. I’d like to experiment more with this film and will take some with me out on my Spanish shooting adventures in summer.

How would you describe the look of the new LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed ?

Subtle, softer hues, giving a warm nostalgic 90s golden charm. If it had a smell, it would be honeysuckle in the late afternoon or dusk on a summer’s day.

This film is crafted to capture the magic glow of golden hour. How would you spend a perfect summer evening?

Somewhere close to the sea, a nice cove, a cliff top, an intimate restaurant near the sea for a pleasurable dining experience watching the sun go down, catching your thoughts or having conversations around who knows what: music, films, life, plans and ideas for shoot. . . preferably in my favourite part of Spain. And if I could resurrect people from the past, I’d ask the artist Aubrey Beardsley to join me so I could find out more about the real him and what makes him tick, as his artwork is amazing and has been so influential on psychedelic art.

What one song would you choose to accompany a photo shoot with the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

‘Hits of Sunshine (for Allen Ginsberg)’ by Sonic Youth. It feels so expansive, spaced out and belongs on one of those sun-down, golden hour summer evenings. It has these mysterious lyrics that are just great. It’s 11 minutes of understated, subdued gold. You could do a lot on your shoot with this on repeat.

What advice would you give to others shooting with the LomoChrome Color ‘92 Sun-kissed?

Get a couple of rolls and change your aperture every few shots. Try opening up and stopping down a couple of notches for effect and to see what you prefer. Stop down for the lower contrast and try backlighting your subjects.
