Community Captures: A Lomography Window Display Celebration with CRC NYC

1

If you're in Manhattan walking around the Lower East Side, you might turn the corner onto Ludlow Street and find that Lomography has thrown up all over the place – It's our new window display, featured at the storefront of our fabulous partner lab, Color Resource Center, also known as CRC.

We knew that it wouldn't be a true Lomography window display without featuring photos from our amazing community members, so we ran an open call. After almost 3,000 submissions, our team narrowed it down and selected 11 special photos to be displayed on the streets of New York City.

To celebrate the new window and the artists selected for its Community Captures section, we invited the photography community to a fun hangout in CRC's garage, showcasing an additional pop-up exhibition with large-scale prints of the images.

The selected photographs for the display were shot by the following talented artists: Geve Penaflor, Kate Grout, Cassie McCoy, Vanessa Gonzalez, Sade Fasanya, Tracy Moore, Fela Raymond, Moriah Ziman, Brian Cho, Kristy Ahumada, and Teague Clements

The images feature a mix of Lomography products, ranging from our Color Negative and LomoChrome film families to classic cameras and creative lenses.

You can check out their photos here, as well as browse the many wonderful submissions we received!

The night was a huge success – a ton of people turned out to enjoy the company of fellow photographers, meeting like-minded people and sipping on some drinks.

A lucky raffle entrant struck gold, winning a brand new Lomomatic 110, three-pack of Color Tiger 110 film, and five free rolls worth of development and scanning at CRC.

CRC is a family-owned business and one-stop shop specializing in film processing and scanning, fine art & commercial printing, and a lot more. Just like Lomography, they've been around since the early '90s doing the good work to keep film photography in alive and thriving!

“There is nothing we love more than seeing members of the film community enthusiastically come together and celebrate the art of photography and film. This event exceeded all of our expectations, making us even more excited to host community driven events like this more frequently in the near future. We are so proud of the talented photographers featured for this season’s Community Captures window. We couldn’t do what we do without enthusiasts and professionals like them… and you!"

From the ground level, CRC appears to be your average photo lab, but when you enter the maze into the underground mystery of the place, you really see it all. It's like Disney World for film photographers.

The evening wrapped up with an in-depth tour given by Neil of CRC's facilities, as he led an enthusiastic group of analogue lovers downstairs to discover the darkroom, scanning lab, printing space, and more.

Our thanks go out to all of the talented photographers who shared their work with us, CRC for their partnership & for hosting us in their space, every community member who came out to celebrate, and Brooklyn Brewery for the drinks!

Stay tuned on our Competitions page for the next rollout of the Community Captures display! You can also look out for our next gathering on our Events page.
