Film soup, double exposures, film swaps, medium format, 35 mm, slide film, negative film—name it and Julija Svetlova (@neja) has tried it. As an art historian and founder of NEJA's Art Walks ("a London-based Educational Art project with a passion for storytelling"), it comes as no surprise that Julija's photos are well-composed and artistic.
Julija's photographs are often rich in color. On her travels and photo walks, she never lets a detail pass her by: ripples in the water, silhouettes and shadows, cloud formations, and interesting architecture are some of her favored subjects.
Not only is Julija an awesome photographer, but she's also gifted in storytelling. She has written her favorite travel memories and shared photogenic locations, which you can find in her LomoHome. Her curiosity and passion for art, combined with her sense of adventure, have inspired many memorable images.
This year marks Julija's 20th year as a Lomography community member. Once, we asked what Lomography meant to her and she answered, "It's such an ever-present part of my life!" That was five years ago and we're happy it still rings true today.
Lomography Pioneers is an ongoing tribute to our earliest community members, whose stories and photographs helped shape our thriving online community into what it is today—diverse, creative, and inspiring. See the Lomographers we've featured so far!
