St. Paul's Cathedral

St Paul’s Cathedral, with its breathtaking Dome, is one of London’s most famous sights and really worth a visit! Marvel at the breathtaking paintings, the marvelous interiors and just the sheer beauty of a true classic, in every sense of the word.

Designed by the court architect Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1710. Wren’s masterpiece is spectacular and without doubt one of the most stunning and beautiful cathedrals I’ve ever seen. The main space is centered under the inner dome, which rises a stunning 108.4m from the floor. Unfortunately, there is no photography allowed inside the building but somehow I managed to get one shot of the inner dome, but sshhh, don’t tell anyone ;)

Despite all the fascinating history and its impressive interior there is one thing you definitely shouldn’t miss: climbing the dome for one of the best views of London. But of course, you have to overcome some stairs first, 530 to be precise.

First stop on your way to the top is the interior walkway, called the Whispering Gallery, where you can have some fun with your family and friends: if you talk close to the wall it carries your words around to the opposite side, 32m away, give it a try! After that, more stairs are waiting for you until you reach the Stone Gallery.

Okay, almost there, but still a bit to go. Further steps to the Golden Gallery are a lot more narrow then before but really worth the effort. I hope you’re not afraid of heights, cause you are now 111m above the ground and a spectacular 360-degree view over the city is waiting for you. Yay, enjoy!

Nearest station is St Paul’s Tube on Central Line, but you can also get there via the Millennium Bridge from South Bank, which offers stunning views from the other side of the river.
