Capturing Color Everywhere: LomoAmigo Joel Chua Shoots with the LC-A+ and Lomo CN Films

Shooting under changing lighting conditions can pose a challenge even for the experienced photographer. We gave our new LomoAmigo Joel Chua a quick photography challenge to shoot around his hometown in Singapore with the Lomo LC-A+ and some Lomography Color Negative films. The scenes he captured show us just how reliable this pairing could be with the LC-A+'s crisp glass lens, easy-to-use zone focusing, along with the Lomo CN film's vivid colors and wide range of exposure.

How was your experience with the LC-A+?

It was a very liberating experience — not having to think about exposures and just have fun while taking photos! The LC-A+ was so pocketable, I had it with me all the time and sometimes I even forgot that I had it with me.

What did you like about it?

I especially enjoyed the double exposure button. It was fun shooting with another person and seeing what you come up with together. I do however need to take note of the orientation of the photos.

What do you think is the best way to enjoy the LC-A+? In what areas of photography does it excel?

To just bring it with you everywhere and take photos of things you find interesting in the everyday. You’ll be surprised at what captures your attention when you’re out with a camera. It also works as a really good street photography camera. Especially with its zone focusing. You only ever need to worry about four zones and let the camera do the rest.

Any tips you could share with people who are just starting with film photography?

Get in touch with your local film community. Start one if it doesn’t exist! It’s always more fun when you have people to shoot it with. But more importantly, just go out and shoot a lot. Then you’ll know what you like. Subjects, gear, film stock. That’s how I found out what works for me!

What can you say about the Lomography CN films? How was the shooting experience?

When I received my scans, I was actually really surprised at the dynamic range of the film and the colors are super gorgeous! It also helps that it comes in 100, 400 and 800 variants.

What is your favorite image from this shoot? Why?

The image that really stuck with me is the double exposure of the escalators intersecting each other. It just got me thinking about the people who pass by each other all the time on public transport. Will they ever meet again in the future? Or was it a fleeting moment?
