Shifting Styles with the Lomogon Art Lens by Alfredo Buonanno

Italian photographer and filmmaker Alfredo Buonanno is no stranger to Lomography's collection of Art Lenses. Moving on from his explorations with the Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens, Buonanno now puts the new Lomogon 2.5/32 Art Lens to the test and how it would capture his surroundings.

Alfredo tried out the lens through an outdoor photo shoot with his Sony Alpha 7s Mark 2. He tried a variety of shots and styles – from street, portrait, to macro photography. The 32 mm lens provided the variety that enabled Alfredo to more accurately capture reality. Alfredo shared:

“The Lomogon gave me a real point of view, it was like mounting a third eye on my camera, which enabled me to capture what I see without any filter. As I like to record what I see in real time, I found being able to manage the aperture from the lens very useful. I was able to follow every single action on my subject, even when they moved into areas with different lighting, without losing a single moment.”

As a photographer who prefers to be able to switch around styles and values versatility of his photographic equipment, he found that the ability of the Lomogon 2.5/32 Art Lens to switch between apertures from f/2.5 to f/11 provided a more intuitive routine. Alfredo added:

“I had a lot of fun shooting between apertures. Instead of waiting for the click of the aperture dial, when dialing through apertures, I posed between two options, which allowed me to create particular effects with an unfocused area in different sections of the frame.”

Fond of anything retro and vintage, Alfredo's shots give off the classic Lomo-look through the natural vignetting and saturated colors that can be achieved either with digital and analogue cameras. The Lomogon 2.5/32 Art Lens versatility is just unmatched.
