Alexandra Bennett, photographer, and videographer originally from Mullica Hill, NJ, is currently based in Hawaii where she documents her unconventional yet sustainable lifestyle. Bennett recently shot a series of photos on our Fisheye No. 2 camera using multiple exposures to create a dreamy and surreal effect.
After shooting, Bennett offered a few tips to share on how to create a similar effect when shooting with Lomography cameras:
"I never shot multiple exposure photography until I met the Fisheye No. 2 camera. The Fisheye No. 2 makes shooting multiple exposures so simple! The camera’s ergonomic design allows the photographer to take multiple photos by switching on the “MX” button after each shot before advancing the film. The use of multiple exposures can be a great way to melt your subject and a beautiful background together. To execute this, first photograph the landscape, then using the same or similar background, shoot a second exposure of your subject. The result is a ghostly appearance of your subject and a clear view of the landscape! Many of my photos also feature the same person with different emotions in each exposure. To do this, photograph the portrait in the left side of the frame, flip the camera upside-down, then take a second exposure in the right side of the frame. Luckily the Fisheye No. 2 is light enough to shoot your subject from all angles!" — Alexandra Bennett
Why shoot multiple exposures? Not only can the technique help document multiple subjects within a single frame, but it can also be a fun way to create contrasts between subjects!
"Multiple exposures are a fun way to add a deeper story to your photo. I shoot multiple exposure photography to highlight dynamic personalities of a single subject and to create new cryptic scenery that sparks imagination. I enjoy using the techniques of mirroring, shooting close up then far away, and combining different subjects into one photo. Most importantly, I have fun in the process!" — Alexandra Bennett
Bennett also loved shooting with the Fisheye No. 2 specifically because of its ease-of-use and portability.
"I adore the Fisheye No. 2 camera because I can simply capture the moment in a photo while also remaining present. I no longer feel the need to set up photo shoots and can just observe the beauty of day to day life. Don’t think just shoot! When I added the powerful Lomography Ringflash photography felt like recess, endless fun! The Fisheye No. 2 camera makes my playful and authentic photography style possible." — Alexandra Bennett
