Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Quinn Ryan Mattingly is an expat who captures the beauty of his new home country and shows us his vision of its exquisite culture.
Through black and white photos, Quinn showcases his acclaimed photography skills. Under Great Northern Skies is inspired by his trip in the rural regions of Northern Vietnam way back in 2007. The project, however, only commenced officially on 2011, when he was tasked to visit the place again for a work engagement.
Since then, Quinn returns to Northern Vietnam every year to add photos to his Under Great Northern Skies series. He states his fascination and love for this series in this statement: "In my travels, I don’t think I’ve ever found a nation that differs so vastly from north to south as Vietnam. According to my own, admittedly fabricated, lore, I imagine the great hills and sharp peaks of the north as the scaly, rugged head of the dragon. The body winds its way down the majestic panoramas of coastline, ending in a collection of tails in the Mekong Delta."
