Meet photographer and regular Lomography contributer Jimmy Cheng who has been testing out the Lomo'Instant Square Glass around the streets of London.
How did you get on shooting with the Lomo'Instant Square Glass camera?
Great! It’s light and very compact when folded up, so it doesn’t take much space in my camera bag. The folding action always draws some positive ‘wow’ reactions from people. The quality of the lens is superior compare to other instax cameras. Like any instax cameras, you need to get use to the offset of the viewfinder to the actual lens so you can correct any parallax errors but once mastered, you are rewarded by some amazing shots. Finally, the camera is easy to shoot too, not complicated, plain and simple, just what I want from a camera.
What did you choose to shoot?
Street portraits. I love street portraits and Instax always give me an edge as people are usually curious about them and hence less ‘defensive’ when I asked to photograph them. Also, London is full of interested people and it’s a great way to document them on the fly.
How did you find shooting with this camera?
Like any Instax cameras, you need to get use to the offset of the viewfinder to the actual lens so you can correct any parallax errors but once mastered, you are rewarded by some amazing shots. As said, this camera sports a very special lens for an instax camera and I love the sharpness from it. When shooting close, you can even blur the background too! Lomography produces some amazing and creative tools and accessories for all their instax cameras, the Lomo'Instant Square Glass is no exception and it means you can use all the gels and splitzter to do all sort of creative stuff with it!
What are you up to this year?
I am gearing myself for a couple of projects which I will be announcing soon but in the meantime, I am focus on my wedding and portrait works that pays my bills and also continue building my YouTube channel. It’s going to be an exciting year for me!
