Irene was born and raised in Larnaca, Cyprus. She studied Audio and Video Production in Cyprus and Photography in Italy. She returned to Cyprus and worked as a photojournalist for many years, until 2011, when she decided to open up a little photography shop and introduce Lomography to the locals. She's been the Lomography Authorized Dealer ever since. She is known for her love for analog and people call her "Khal-lomo" (a reference to Game of Thrones' Khaleesi = Queen)!
How did your interest with photography start?
Quite randomly! I was watching a show on TV and there was a photographer taking shots in a studio. That's when I thought to myself: "I want to become a photographer"!
How would you define photography? What makes it worth pursuing?
I think all forms of art are worth pursuing. For me photography is an outlet, a healthy way of expressing myself, of letting go, of unwinding. It's my "happy place".
What inspires you?
Everything and nothing. Truth, lies. Love, hate. Originality, hypocrisy. Other photographers, the movies. But mostly, music.
What makes a good photograph?
Emotion. And "The Decisive Moment", of course.
Any advice that you’d like to give aspiring photographers?
I don't like advice, but my opinion is "shoot more film"! Give film a chance, it's the right way to get into photography.
