See how your favorite photographer lugs their gear around, what they have in their everyday carry, and how they use it! This time, we put the gear spotlight on talented photographer Tamara Álvarez -- we featured her a while back and we're still in love with her use of darkness and light.
Hello. Tamara! Welcome back to the Magazine! What’s in your everyday carry bag?
Phone, wallet, keys, earphones, underground ticket, a book if I have to spend much time on the public transport and always some snack.
What do you use as your everyday shooter?
For my daily days, I use my mobile phone, and for special occasions like birthdays or small trips, I take with me the analog Fuji STX-2. For professional works, my Canon EOS 7D and the Canon 24-70mm lens.
How do you prepare for a day’s worth of shooting?
The day before I tend to spend my day looking for inspiration and preparing my gear.
What are the top five things you can’t leave home without?
A natural Lip Balm
Earphones, for music and Netflix
My analog camera: a Fuji STX-2
An underground ticket
And of course my mobile phone
Tell us a bit about your gear. How long have you had them?
The Canon 7D has been with me for 5 years, which is quite a lot! About lenses, my first acquisition was the Sigma 50mm f/1.4, which I love so much. Then it came the Canon 24mm f/2.8, the one I use for short travels or when I don’t want to carry heavy gear. Later came the best: the Canon 24-70mm. I can’t stop using it, even for travels! And the latest addition to the family was the Petzval lens, the perfect one for bokeh lovers like me.
Do you have a number of items that you keep in rotation? What are they?
I actually don’t keep my gear in rotation, the camera strap is the only thing I changed the last year.
How long have you had your bag? Any special memories of it?
My bag came five years ago with my camera and all the memories of it are good. All my first jobs were with it and most of my travels: Hamburg, Austria, Romania... and more are about to come!
Lastly, what’s on your gear wish list?
A camera cover for bad weather conditions. This last year I have been in three snowstorms and so many rainy cities, and I found myself covering the gear with a rain jacket, which made it difficult to take shots. And maybe it is time for a new camera body... Who knows!!
