The legendary couple in performance art, Marina Abramović and Ulay, lived together for 12 years and pioneered the art as a duo; however, Marina remains the more prominent in the field. Get to know her other half, Frank Uwe Laysiepen, better known as "Ulay".
Before his endeavor with performance art, Ulay was a photographer who traveled Europe and the U.S., taking photographs with 20x244 and 40x80 inch cameras. Abramović would recall the German photographer 'a self-made man'. Their collaboration, specifically in the work "Relation Works", Ulay would take control of the photography and video aspects of their performance.
