Hot summer days, the clear sky, stylish personalities wearing eccentric and colorful trendy outfits. The 92nd edition of Pitti Uomo, in Florence, provided a fantastic atmosphere for some fun snapshots. Here, Alessandro Michelazzi continued his project Instapitti, this time with the Lomo'Instant Automat.
Alessandro Michelazzi: "Throughout the fair, I stopped some of the participants, asking them to pose for a picture. I chose those who seemed to have a colorful and generally interesting outfit.
The surprise (for them!) was when I took out of my bag the Lomo’Instant Automat. Everybody was expecting a simple digital photo, surely not an analog instant portrait!
As we were waiting for about five minutes for the whole development, I asked them where they were from, what they were doing ... in this way I was able to create a connection. Surely this is always the most interesting part of the whole project.
In January I used the Lomo'Instant, this time I relied on the Lomo'Instant Automat. The exposure was easier to calculate thanks to the automatic settings of the camera. Even in super bright situations, the film never resulted in overexposure. I was really satisfied with the results because all of the pictures always came out well exposed. Finally, I liked the compact look of the camera.
I then used a Fujifilm X100T camera since I was looking for the same 35mm field of view as the instant camera, so I could get enough close. The f/2 aperture allowed me to properly focus the photo in foreground while having the subject in background slightly blurred."
