To celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are honoring 25 of the most iconic Lomographers in the community. We did some catching up with Hodaka Yamamoto, also known as Hodachrome, who is celebrating his 7th year in Lomography!
Name: Hodaka Yamamoto
Year when you joined Lomography: 2010
Let's do a backtrack: How did you discover Lomography?
My first contact with Lomography is getting an old Lomo LC-A (not LC-A+) in 2007. A friend of mine taught me about it and I soon got interested in Lomography’s original photography. It’s the beginning of my photo life with Lomography.
What was your first Lomography camera?
Lomo LC-A+. First and best camera to me. Not easy camera to handle with (especially for multiple exposures) but once you got nice results you will be obsessed with the magic of LC-A+.
What's your fondest Lomography moment?
I have many wonderful Lomography moments since I joined Lomography. One of the best moment is having a photo exhibition and photo walk overseas (in Malaysia 2013). It was a precious experience to me. Another moment I remember well is meeting one of my best Lomography friend Toby Mason (@fotobes) and his friends in the UK (2013). It was a special time, with cameras and beers.
What does Lomography mean to you?
Lomography, to me, is the dreamy culture which I can realize my ideas and creativity to the full.
Could you share some of your earliest Lomography shots?
What keeps you busy now?
I am spending busy days with taking photos, photo exhibitions, photo school and other various activities related to photography. Not easy to fulfill all of them but I am enjoying every day!
Who were your Lomography friends back then?
@Fotobes, @grazie and @gocchin. They are all talented and sophisticated photographers whom I respect so much. Luckily I experienced filmswap projects with all of them and learned much from them. Grazie is only one who I haven’t met in person yet (in near future hopefully!).
What advice would you give new Lomographers?
I would like newcomers to enjoy film photography first of all. There are many original cameras, films, and accessories in Lomography. Don’t hesitate to try your own style of photography with using them, without any fixed rules.
