Learning Photography from Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon is already a master of his own league. His fashion imagery is a very humanist, revolutionized portraiture like no other. And yet, he yearned to be the likes of Walker Evans or Helen Levitt. To him, documentary photography was the genre he wanted to conquer. His series 'In the American West', a collection of portraits of regular and common people, is considered his magnum opus -- the fruit of his mastered skill which merged portraiture and documentary.

From his humble beginnings to his legendary era, watch this old documentary from the 1996 American Masters Series here in full.
