Lost Films & the Art of Restoration


Nearly half of the films made before 1950 were lost: lost in the sense, these out of date movies are unwatchable in terms of quality. However, thanks to the hard work of the restoration, digitization and safekeeping departments, these classic films have once again come to life.

Although 'restoration' often comes under scrutiny as some don't like tainting classics with colorization or alteration, hence changing the tone, these behind-the-scenes people are not going to publish the restored film if the whole crew aren't happy or satisfied with it.
