What’s Underneath – Film Photography by Mariana Dias

Choosing what to reveal and what to hide is an important part of photography. Taking out a single element can make or break a photograph and Portugal-based artist Mariana Dias knows that all too well.

Mariana’s photographs leave out a little something for the audience to figure out on their own. Her framing is delicate and her angles are precise -- everything seems calm, quiet, and soothing to a point. Her images reveal only what is intended and lets the viewers give their own interpretation of her art. A simple covering of the face or a twitch of the body can communicate so much. Mariana’s work is a nod to emotion, poetry, and intimacy in visual form.
