John Tods was part of the Lomography staff based in Bangkok, Thailand. Now that he's a fashion photographer, he tested the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art lens. Take a look at the splendid photos he came up with!
Hi! Tell us more about yourself.
Hi! I'm Tods. I'm a Freelance Photographer and I work as a Social Media Executive/In-house Photographer for BOYY and Viera by Ragazze.
Tell us about the concept of this Daguerreotype showcase.
Well, I was invited by Janesuda (Fashion Brand) to be an official photographer for shooting their seasonal collection (including the Spring/Summer 2017 “Pure Magic”). After I knew about the concept and saw the clothes from (brand owner) Janesuda Parnto, I got a splendid idea! I wanted the concept to tell a story about a couple who separated then met each other again in a forest. Seems nostalgic, isn't it? This set will hopefully remind about the best moments we all want to keep. We called it “Pure Magic”.
Why you choose Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art lens for this?
The Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Art Lens is suitable for the concept because it gives a romantic mood.
What do you think about this lens?
I really like it! Actually I didn't know about technique much. I just thought about the mood while I used this lens. It's easy to focus and shoot with. The photos turned out to be soft like paintings (which is perfect for me if we need that kind of photo). The results really surprised me. One more thing that I like about it is the compatibility with (D)SLR cameras and the nice bokeh effect.
Any tips for Daguerreotype users?
I think it's suitable with portraiture and you have to be careful when shooting: if the subject is off-center it will blur.
