It started when someone shared the news about AirAsia opening direct flights from Singapore to Tehran, Iran on the Singapore CouchSurfing Facebook group. I looked it up on the AirAsia website right away and was surprised at how cheap the return trip is. Countries in the Middle East have always fascinated me but I have never been to one before. I took this as an opportunity to experience it, so I booked the flight.

In a span of two weeks, I managed to travel to four cities in Iran—Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Yazd—through long bus rides. This country was unexpectedly beautiful, charming, and full of character, with friendly and hospitable people.
