Thomas Rowe is the vocalist of 5 piece, London based band Mass Datura. They recently went on tour with Black Mountain so we gave Thomas a Lomo'instant Wide to document his trip.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Thomas Rowe, I am originally from the west coast of Canada, moved to England 8 years ago. I play guitar/sing in Mass Datura. I also make handmade footwear at my shop called The Parachute Collective in Bethnal Green. I also write books of poetry and make collage art from time to time. I smoke a lot of cigarettes.
What inspires you all to write music?
The instrument line up in Mass Datura is bit of a odd one, having a traditional instrument like the pedal steel and modern synths etc plus all of our influences being somewhat all over the place makes the final out come of each song a bit of a mystery and a nice surprise for all of us. but I think for me, trying to have a vast spectrum of sounds and emotions within each song is always important. For each song to create its own world for the listener.
How did you get on shooting with the Lomo’instant Wide?
They were great fun, easy to load, took us a little bit of time getting to know what settings to use though they are basic, non of us are photographers. Each time the over all look of the photos were a surprise, and who doesn't like surprises. Hopefully Santa will get me one for xmas this year.
If your photos could have a soundtrack, what would it be? (5 songs, title and artist please)
Venom- stage banter
Pink Floyd- how I wish you were here
Paul Stanley- stage banter
R Stevie Moore- little man
Ted Hawkins- sorry your sick
What’s coming up in the future?
We will be releasing our full length album this spring. We have a show booked in London with San Francisco's Greg Ashley on Jan 20th at The Moth Club. More recording and shows.
