Lomopedia: Plaubel Makina 67

4

This Lomopedia installment comes to us in all its premium 120 glory. Feast your eyes on the Plaubel Makina 67 medium format camera. The Makina 67 shoots 6×7 images on 120 film with incredible image quality due to its Nikkor 80mm f2.8 lens. Plaubel sold the manufacturing rights to the Kimio Doi group in 1975 and the Makina 67s rolled out of factories in 1978. The body was designed by Konica and bears a resemblance to older German Makina cameras. The lenses were then made by another camera/lens manufacturer, Nikon.

The Makina67 is a fine medium-format camera that was designed and made with performance in mind. It is a strut-folding camera that has a coupled rangefinder, built-in manual meter, flash sync of 1/500 (twice as fast as other modern cameras of its time), a 5-blade diaphragm, and a compact enough body that lets users carry and shoot with it comfortably.

Image-wise, it is no slacker. The Makina 67 offers high-quality images with its Nikkor 80mm f2.8, 6 elements in 4 group glass lens. It can be shot wide open at f2.8 and still create sharp photos – a feature that is lost with other cameras when shooting at such big aperture sizes.

All in all, the Makina 67 is a total performer. Every feature is spot-on to help the user achieve exactly what his/her vision dictates. Later models come in the form of the wide-angle Makina W67 and the Makina 670 – both are medium-format cameras, too. I am very happy that I have this camera. Due to the fact that it has a broken lightmeter, I could make a bargain
