A Week With Our LomoAmigo Gema Espinosa (@rubirroja)

The photographer and lifestyle blogger Gema Espinosa – also known as @ Rubirroja on social media – took the Lomo'Instant Honolulu Edition on a trip for a week and today we are thrilled to show you the result.

Hi! Could you please introduce yourself to the community?

My name is Gema Espinosa, @ Rubirroja on social media, and I am a photographer and lifestyle blogger.

What is your story with photography?

Photography has been my passion since a very early age. I remember when I was 10, I would already have a look at photography books, checking each and every detail of the images, imagining how all those photos were taken. As soon as I had the chance I started shooting my first photos, and I really enjoyed preparing my first exhibition when I was 19 years old, with shots I created with a compact camera that my boyfriend, and now husband, gave me a few months earlier.

What were your first impressions of the Lomo’Instant Wide?

The first thing that came to my mind, was that the design of the Lomo’Instant Honolulu was amazing, I loved the unboxing experience because there were a lot of extras I didn’t expect, and I remember that… I was really looking forward to get started and test all the lenses and all its settings!

Could you tell us more about the shots you took during your week with the Lomo’Instant Honolulu Edition?

I had the chance to go on a trip to Germany, for a family wedding, and shoot some places that caught my attention in Munich, Frankfurt, Ludwigsburg or Stutgart.

Which kind of situations do you find the Lomo’Instant Wide most handy?

Since I like bright images, my favorite moment to use it was outside in daylight, but I am looking forward to exploring more with night photography and the bulb setting of the camera.

Any tips for other Lomo’Instant photographers?

Don’t be afraid to experiment in order to get to know instant films. You may need to shoot some failed photos to get the perfect exposition, and therefore it is very important that we have a good look at the settings that we are using, so we can recreate them in future shots with the same light conditions, or so we can correct the effect and aim for what we are looking for.

What is the best feature of the camera?

In my opinion, all the features that boost experimental photography like the multiple exposition and bulb settings, that make it the most fun instant camera in the market. Additionally, I also find it very interesting that the camera comes with three different lenses and color gels for the flash, because this broadens even more the possibilities we can achieve with our camera.

Why do you love instant photography?

Without any doubt, what I like the most about it, is the moment the image comes out and you can see how it slowly develops in front of you. Also, on a trip like this, it was great to be able to take some pictures with the family and give them right away to them, so they would all have a nice memory of that moment for the rest of their lives – without having to wait to develop the film in a lab. It was great!
