A Visit to Louis Daguerre's House in Bry-Sur-Marne

1

Before the launch of Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens, it wasn’t all prototype development and planning. The Lomography team in France took time to appreciate the history behind the project. The experience was like peering into the family tree of the world’s most important lenses. PR Manager Morgane Stampfer takes us there.

In March, we were lucky to visit a place of history: the Daguerre House located in Bry-sur-Marne. We got in touch with the curator of the Museum Adrien Mentienne, Margaret Calvarin, who served as our guide as we researched on the origins of Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens, a product that Lomography had been developing for years. Margaret showed us many old lenses, including that of the historic daguerreotype camera. We also visited the park and the museum storage where the cameras and the lenses were just waiting for us in solemn silence.

The old house of Daguerre is empty and is now dedicated to temporary exhibitions. But we were lucky enough to get inside to have a view of the city through an old daguerreotype. I remember it was a moving moment and I had the feeling of having a piece of history in my hands. We walked through the property and shot some footage for the video you see below. Margaret told us that Daguerre lived in the white house and the building in bricks is a rebuilding of the old one. Having Lomography’s Daguerreotype Achromat Art Lens among the historic lens was quite a sight!
