Maldives, consisting of 26 atolls; 1190 islands, is heaven for sun, sand and surf!

It takes around 3 and a half hours to get to Maldives by plane from Sri Lanka. When you first land at Hulhule’ Airport, located on an island of its own, you can travel to the capital Male’ on a ‘dhoni’ (the local name for a boat). From the airport you can also take a sea plane to islands that are further away.

Forget about road trips, its all about Island Hopping over here! Tourists usually stay in resorts where they are taken on island excavations to experience the Maldivian way of life. However if you want a more authentic and up to date Maldivian experience, you might want to stay in a hotel in the capital for a fraction of the cost.

Male’, the capital is only 3 square kilometers, but bustling with people and life. Life here is extremely contrasting to that of islands nearby; it’s the only bussiness hub and its more developed. Roads are narrow and buildings tall. Its extremely crowded! Welcome to a third world country!

Maldives is famous for its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. A must visit before it sinks into oblivion!

Definitely a must before it sinks into oblivion! I saw a news report that detailed how the water level has risen dramatically in the past decade and that it might be completely underwater in our life time. Scary stuff.
