LomoLocations: The Cotton Palace of Turkey

Look again, this isn’t snow or ice.

Even in summer, Pamukkale in Turkey reigns white. This region has been dubbed the Cotton Palace, and rightly so. It is a fantasy planted right here on earth! Calcite-rich waters have hardened into these rippled boulders. Some portions also feature layered puddles of turquoise water. Tourists can even dip into them while enjoying a majestic aerial view.

Adjacent to Pamukkale are the ruins of Hierapolis, an ancient spa visited by people of the Roman empire. Another area of this vast city also served as a necropolis.
