Lomography at the Hermitage

On May, 15th during the Art Night, the Lomography Embassy Russia presented a 15m long LomoWall in Restoration and Storage Centre of the well-known State Hermitage Museum, Saint-Petersburg.

During the Art Night on May, 15th visitors of the Restoration and Storage Centre of the famous Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg could enjoy a fantastic 15m long LomoWall made from thousands of pictures taken in and of the Hermitage Museum.

20 experienced lomographers have been selected for this project. They have been taking photos of the museum for several weeks, using the Lomo LC-A(+) only and, of course, observing all the Golden Rules of Lomography – shooting from the hip, being fast and getting as close as possible. Lomographers have taken hundreds of great photos using colour flashes, filters, doing multiple exposures and all these techniques helped them to represented the museums’ atmosphere in the most unusual way a “classical” museum could think of. All the photos were sent to Vienna, where the archivists had a though time selecting the best of the best photos for the LomoWall. The last stage then happened in St. Petersburg at the Lomography Embassy, where a creative process was started to put the 2.500 (!) photos together to form a unique and 15m long LomoWall.

Besides the exhibition of the LomoWall, there was a kind of informal conference in the Hermitage. Visitors and organizers were discussing Lomography as an art, it’s present and it’s future.

The Lomography Embassy Russia team thanks all the participants and is looking forward to present the Hermitage LomoWall Project in an absolutely new way and new place.

Not only lomographers were admiring the colorful lomographs, also the Channel One Russia was on-site to film the happenings around the LomoWall (the video will be online soon). In the meantime, have a look at their latest video reporting about Lomography (only in Russian available):
