Jorge Drexler and his Diana F+

Jorge Drexler and his Diana F+ – The audience was roaring, the Price was packed and we stood in the security area shooting our cameras like mad men.

We were there! Drexler, one of the best singer-songwriters and poets in Spanish, and Oscar Award winner for the song Al otro lado del río from the movie ‘The Motorcyle Diaries’, presented last Friday in Madrid his latest album “Amar la trama” with a fantastic concert at the mythical Circo Price venue. He was accompanied by outstanding musicians – virtually a Big Band. The audience was roaring, the Price was packed and we stood in the security area shooting our cameras like mad men.

Because Drexler, besides being a musician and a poet, is also a lomographer. And a real one. Analogic photography is part of his everyday life and his cameras, especially his Diana F+, are an essential part of his life and another tool for communication. Hence Madrid woke up with buildings wallpapered with the portrait of Drexler with a Diana F+ in his hand.

We take this chance to remember a poem he dedicated to his Diana camera:

EL OJO EN LA DIANA
¡La gracia de lo imperfecto!
¡La bendición del error!
Cada cual es quien es, por
lo que hace de sus defectos.
La bruma de los afectos
que gobierna el alma humana,
nos libre de la tirana
fiebre de perfeccionar.
¡Que a veces sólo al errar
acierta uno en la diana!

Jorge Drexler

Gommorah Girl: An Interview with Valerio Spada

Valerio Spada went beyond his comfort zone and stepped right into the battlefield with his camera. He went to Naples, Italy, an area populated by the Camorra Mafia but also home to Annalisa Durante who, at the age of 14, was killed by a bullet aimed at a Camorra boss. What happened to her could've happened to any of the girls portrayed in the book Gommorah Girl. This work is about Annalisa. It's about all of the girls that, just like her, seem doomed to an unfair destiny - which, hopefully, may still change.

    Trusty Bags for Trusty Cameras

We spend copious amounts of time stalking camera forums and researching specifications that "hunter" seems a more fitting term than "collector." And yet, when the time comes to pack all this game—the new or thrillingly ancient cameras—we DIY padding on the spot. (Guilty of trying to avoid the unappealing gear bag from the department store.) Last year though we stocked up on camera bags that are as cool as they are protective. Here are some of them.
