Brick Lane Street

I fell in love with those bricks.

Brick Lane is a long street in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in the East End of London. It runs from Swanfield Street in the northern part of Bethnal Green, crosses Bethnal Green Road, passes through Spitalfields and is linked to Whitechapel High Street to the south by the short stretch of Osborn Street. Today, it is the heart of the city’s Bangladeshi-Sylheti community and is fondly known as Banglatown.

Now, I’m not from UK nor London, so I’m a foreigner in this place. I went there because of the Spitalfields market.

Sunday up market

I found there some cheap cameras. Now I regret I didn’t buy one. And then, I found out there was a Fournier street near. The name of my company is Fournier so I decided to check the street. Fournier Street was the last to be built on the Wood-Michell. The houses mainly date from the 1720s and together form one of the most important and best preserved collections of early Georgian domestic town-houses in Britain. Built for French Huguenot master silk-weavers and mercers, the houses of Fournier Street were fitted out with fine wooden panelling and elaborate joinery such as carved staircases, fireplaces and highly detailed door-cases by the master craftsmen of the day. This street reminded me of old villages of France.

One thing brought another and I found myself in Brick Lane street. And then, I fell in love with it. I love that spirit, that walk along the street was full of bricks, cool exotic restaurants and some designer’s shops. I love that place. A Rough Trade record shop was also near the place. If you are a tourist in London as I was, that is discovering what you want of a city. I envy you London People. I have not a street like this at home.

Great article, I used to draw in the market when it was still a real market and rather smelly!
