Start Camera

2010-11-11 5

Reflex camera of the high class. These cameras were produced by factory “KMZ” (Krasnogorsk) since 1958 to 1964.

The Start is a reflex camerawhich I must say a very heavy piece of metal (1Kg.), also it has a good and fluid transmission lever. The objective or the lens that comes with it is a very bright Helios 44 (58mm. f-2) and it is very shiny with field of view that allows to realize perfect frames.

A characteristic of this camera is to take pictures very near to the ground without the picture-taker having tobe to bend just to see through the viewfinder. Infact it is possible to remove the pentaprism and control the frame from the top.

Frame size 24X36mm, Curtain-type shutter.

Lenses: Helios-44 with special bayonet

Adjustable shutter speeds:
1, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000 of a second and “B” [before 1959].
1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000 of a second and “B” [after 1959].

The set includes : Case, adapter for M39, pentaprism, pit checker, manual instruction, box.

Very good camera!

Lomo In-Depth: The Defining Role of Women Photographers in Art History

It is general knowledge that history—ruled and written by austere patriarchy—has not been so kind to women. Photography is one of the rare exceptions; womankind has set its pervading presence and participation in photography since the birth of the camera in the 1800's. Lomography traces the role of women in photography with a special, comprehensive summary for International Women's Day.

Klara Johanna Michel's Ethereal Visions as Captured by the Lomo'Instant Wide

Influenced by the work of Caravaggio, Berlin-based photographer Klara Johanna Michel hand-painted photographs are reminiscent of Renaissance art. The images are highly stylized and the subjects are posed to mimic the appearance of religious beings. Who would have thought that such mystery and old world charm could similarly be achieved with the help of an instant camera?
