The Ting Tings are a musical duo from Manchester who have more pop hits than you can shake a stick at. They are most famous for their 2008 hit “That’s Not My Name” which got even the stiffest of people shaking in their seats. The Ting Tings are back with a brand new album called Super Critical. They are big film fanatics (check out their website for proof) so we gave them a Sprocket Rocket Camera and a bunch of film to document their life in sunny IBIZA.
Hello Ting Tings. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Afternoon! We are a girl and a guy from Manchester that have been residing in Ibiza, recording our album here.
What inspires you to write music?
We have a complete love of real authentic pop. Ninety percent of our time is spent writing and dreaming up…what if’s! And also we get ridiculously depressed if we don’t write. I guess it’s the usual need …create to relate!
What advice would you give to other budding musicians who want to make in in the music industry?
Do your own thing. What you think are your failures actually make you different…. And don’t get diluted. Stay in lane!
How did you get on shooting with the La Sardina and Sprocket Rocket?
We Loved it…it has been a regular in rehearsals and a companion on nights out! Because our studio is a tiny Spanish old donkey’s stable, it is difficult to photograph. The wide angle helped a lot..we enjoyed taking photos on photos..it gave great effect..
What is it you like about analogue photography?
The same as analogue tape in a studio..it’s that untangible feel, the feeling of authenticity, and the risk of not knowing what your going to get.It makes you more creative..and every photo has a thought process.
If your photos could have a soundtrack, what would it be? (5 songs, title and artist please)
Talking Heads-Psyco killer
Max Sedgley- Happy
Cypress Hill – Insane In The Membrain
The Velvet Underground – Femme Fatale
Donna Summer- I Feel Love
What do you have planned in the future?
Well, we finished our album, which we recorded on analogue! So this month we are playing a show in Ibiza, then rehearsing for a tour coming up and planning and making our new video.
Super Critical is out on October 27 and is available on iTunes.
The single ‘Wrong Club’ is out now!!
Thanks for the interview, Ting Tings!
