Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120: Perfect for Endless Multiple Exposures!

2014-08-19 3

About two years ago or so, I purchased the Lomography Redscale XR 50-200. I saved just one roll of this film and waited for the right moment to shoot with it. In April this year, I just wasn’t able to take it anymore! I loaded this film into my Lubitel 166+, which I realized I hadn’t used for maybe about six months. One idea came to mind: taking crazy multiple exposures!

I remember that particular Saturday morning. I woke up and sent a text to my lomo friend, @fadjaradiputra, so we could go for a lomowalk. I was so excited because I could finally use this film with my *Lubitel 166+*.

At first I just took double exposure shots. I shot a portrait of Fajar but decided to make a double exposure with it. All I knew in my head then was that I will shoot multiple exposure shots no matter what!

At first I was a little shy with taking multiple exposures. I wanted to shoot this and that, and thought too much! Suddenly, I remembered the High Quantity Multiple Exposures (HQME) technique by lomo legend @mephisto19.

I think I shot five or six exposures, but they’re still not overexposed! I could still see orange and a bit of red. These kinds of colors, I think, is the signature of the *Lomography Redscale XR 50 -200*. The extended exposure range allows us to expose the film from ISO 50 to 200, but since I used it for taking multiple exposures, I set my camera at f/16 with the shutter speed at 1/125 and 1/250.

This film is so versatile. Using the HQME technique meant business. Correctly exposing this film certainly is key, and the XR factor seemed to really help with this.

This review is based on my first try with the Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 using MX techniques. There are a lot of possibilities using this film. Maybe I should stock some soon!

From intense orange, shy red, to grayish and pale brown – this is the film you’ve all been looking for!
