Take time off and breathe in the fresh air at the countryside!
I was given the chance to visit a local olive farm in Kunming, China back last year in December. It was wintertime and my first time experiencing such immense cold weather! (From where I come from, it’s sunny or rainy all year around)
The olive farm is a two-hour drive from the city, hidden deep within the countryside where farmers depend on the harvest for their livelihood. It was an eye-opening experience living outside of the city in a place where water and electricity were scarce.
The house in which I stayed was at one of the high peaks of a hill where the view was breath taking! The air was fresh, the wind was cool and the feeling of being surrounded by nature gave me a calming effect, forgetting the fast-paced urban lifestyle I lead back home.
The owners of the farm, as well as the workers who stayed there were extremely hospitable and very welcoming. Although I am a Chinese, I’m ashamed to say that I cannot speak my mother tongue very well, and had to rely on friends to help me translate!
Besides growing olives, the farm produced a variety of vegetables and fruits, as well as my favourite, the broccoli.
I’m going back there again this year but this time, for two weeks!
