A Colour Blast from the Past!: Fujifilm T64 Pro (35mm, 64 iso) User-Review

6

‘If you liiiike …..a lottttt of turq-ouise on your film then join the CLUUBB…’ – it’s the jingle from an old advert, anyone?!?!

I bought 2 rolls of this film about 4 years ago when I decided that cross-processing looked like the tastiest hobby since sliced bread, and that I was going to give it a go!

As time and funds dwindled however, the flames of my photography passions were snuffed out, and the one Fuji T64 that I’d lovingly rendered with carnival images, and the other un-used roll, were promoted from ‘flavour of the day’ to ‘future long-lost treasure’ via my dark and mysterious wardrobe.

Fast forward 4 years (and 2 very prominent expiry dates!) and having decided that a love of all things analogue (Swatch watches also anyone?!?!) is the new wonderfood (sliced bread?!?! pssshhhh, it’s not even HEALTHY?!) I put the lovingly rendered film into the lab and awaited with baited breath- not only was it being cross processed, but it was super duper out-of-date, it was going to be just CRRRRAZYYY!

Anyway, pictures in hand, how did Fuji pro make me feel Well….. very pleased! although some pictures are a little grainy because the film is so stinkin’ expired, and the ISO is low, so some of the lighting conditions weren’t ideal, I am impressed with the restrained colour shifts and subtle contrast upgrade that the film (and it’s expiry no doubt!) afforded my photographs!

The colours are what really make this film the bees knees- having a dislike of lurid yellows and greens, I find the turquiose hues much more appealing, and as long as the lighting conditions are suitable, this appears to be the pre-dominant colour. I would guess that indoor flash-photography might leave you with a slightly more yellowy hue? but either way, a really great, easy to use film that was a very satisfying introduction for me into the world of cross-processing! And now I can begin to decide what to use my second roll of ‘treasure’ film on!

Love the colour shift - I've got some of this expired from 1998 in my Olympus XA3 at the moment! Hope they turn out this nice, if they turn out at all!
